News update

26 Jul 2010

From the first of July, John Whitelock joined the Executive Team as Director of New Business taking on a new role combining the housing development side of Saffron Housing Trust with bringing in new services and opportunities. Some of our customers will know John as he has been with Saffron, initially with the supported housing team, since it started six years ago. He is looking forward to his new role and believes that Saffron is well placed to help develop new services for tenants and the wider community. Saffron is also delighted to welcome new Board members, South Norfolk Councillors Eloise Ellis and John Overton.

Clare House

Clare House

Clare House is a refurbished Sheltered Housing unit in Diss, offering 26 self-contained flats of which four are double. Each flat consists of a lounge, kitchen, bathroom and one bedroom (double flats have two bedrooms).

Each flat has independent water and electric meters, and telephone points in most. Invicta alarm pull cords and a smoke alarm are also installed in each flat. The pull cords are for emergency use only and there is always someone to answer your needs 24 hours a day.

A laundry room is situated on the ground floor, comprising two washing machines and two dryers (operated on a rota basis). There is a bathroom on the ground floor and each flat has a shower.

There is also a hairdressing room on the ground floor, which can be used by all residents, and a mobile hairdresser visits once week (by appointment).

Social activities take place in the communal lounge on the ground floor. Birthday parties, fish and chip lunches, coffee mornings, bingo and a host of entertainers coming to amuse and delight the club members!

Clare House is very close to most amenities, including the library, post office, health centre, banks and shops. Day centres are available if required, and transport can be arranged.

Vegetables are delivered on a Friday, groceries on a Wednesday, and papers from the local newsagent can be delivered when ordered. A bookcase in the lounge is filled with donated books, some of which are in large print. This is very useful for those whose mobility is limited and find the library difficult to reach.
