News update

26 Jul 2010

From the first of July, John Whitelock joined the Executive Team as Director of New Business taking on a new role combining the housing development side of Saffron Housing Trust with bringing in new services and opportunities. Some of our customers will know John as he has been with Saffron, initially with the supported housing team, since it started six years ago. He is looking forward to his new role and believes that Saffron is well placed to help develop new services for tenants and the wider community. Saffron is also delighted to welcome new Board members, South Norfolk Councillors Eloise Ellis and John Overton.

Customer Involvement

Saffron Open Day

Saffron's first Open Day on 27th June 2009 was attended by over 400 people who came along and enjoyed a range of attractions and activities including rides in a scissor lift, live music, free food & drink, archery, coconut shy, bouncy castle, wall building and information stands. The event was a great opportunity for all our customers to meet staff Board and CAP Members.

The Customer Advisory (CAP) was very involved in organising the event and you can read more about this in the autumn 2009 edition of the CAP News.

The Silfield Partnership

The Silfield Partnership is a partnership of local agencies including representatives from the voluntary sector, local businesses and residents who are working with South Norfolk Alliance, looking at what local residents want and helping them to improve their communities. The Residents Fair on 4th July gave residents and those working in the area an opportunity to say what they liked and disliked about the area. On 15th July Patsy Peirson and Andrew Beer gave a presentation to South Norfolk Alliance on how they are working to improve facilities in Silfield and on the 27th a Fun Day was held on the Ring in Silfield, with attractions including 'Joy of Food', Wymondham Lions, Vintage Cars, Sure Start, a Bungee Run and Bouncy Castle. The food and BBQ facilities were supplied by Hope Church.

For further details about becoming involved the Silfield Partnership may be contacted at 15a Green Lane, Silfield NR18 9AD

The Community East Football Tournament

This year's annual event took place on 5th July at the Power League in Norwich with over 90 children from communities all over East Anglia attending with their families. The 5-a-side tournament was mainly funded by a generous donation from The Saffron Community Foundation charity and all participating children received a free lunch and unlimited juice throughout the day. Medals were awarded to all players with trophies for the winning teams. Chedgrave Residents' Association volunteered their time to plan, organise and run the day and hope to hold another tournament next year.

Willbye Avenue Play Area

Saffron has received several requests from local residents', including a petition backed by local Safer Neighbourhood Team requesting that we up date the facilities available in this area. We have been trying to obtain funding to assist with the redevelopment of the park, which has not been updated since being erected in the 1970's.

Earlier this year, Diss Town councilors approved a £10,000 allocation of Section 106 money towards a new play area in Willby Avenue and following an expression of interest made by Saffron Customer Involvement Team with the assistance of South Norfolk Council, in June we received approval in principle for Playbuilder funding to assist us to complete this project.

We are currently completing a series of final consultations with young people aged between 8 & 13 in the Diss area asking 'What would you like to do in this area'

If you would like to give us your ideas, include your age
& details of how often you use the Willbye Play Area
email - consultme@saffronhousing.co.uk

We asked the children at Diss Junior School what they would like to see on the Willbye Avenue public play area and here are some of the ideas they provided.
